It's Working Project

"My boss suggested I block off my pump times on my calendar and he always asks when scheduling meetings close to my pump time if it is okay. "

What is one piece of advice you wish you could offer your former expectant self?

Don’t let things overwhelm you. Start simple and you’ll eventually end up where you want to be.

How much leave did you take, and how comfortable were you taking it?

I took 12 weeks off and started back to work part time for a few weeks. I was ready to go back to work, but after a week or so, I realized that it was a little sudden and I needed more transition time.

Who was your biggest source of support in returning to work? What was your biggest pregnancy indulgence?

No. I don’t know very many people who have gone back to work after having children. A couple people from work helped a little, but I was mostly on my own.

Fill in the blanks: As a working parent, I never expected ____ would be so hard and ____ would be so much easier!

How it could be so rewarding and so difficult at the same time. Don’t worry about the little things – everything about parenthood seemed so stressful and hard and I worried so much about what seemed impossible, but soon the impossible things just become your daily routine. Stressing unnecessarily just leads to you not being able to enjoy the moment.
